I feel pleased and confident.  The day after the election, President-elect Barack Obama hit the ground running, announcing the creation of his “transition team.” 

According to GovExec.com  (a business magazine serving executives and managers in the federal government), the transition team is officially known as the, ”Obama-Biden Transition Project, a 501(c)(4) organization, a nonprofit that can engage in lobbying or political campaigning.”

At Change.gov, the official website for the Obama-Biden Transition Project, it states that, “The principal priorities of the Obama Administration include: a plan to revive the economy, to fix our health care, education, and social security systems, to define a clear path to energy independence, to end the war in Iraq responsibly and finish our mission in Afghanistan, and to work with our allies to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, among many other domestic and foreign policy objectives.” You can read news about and an overview of the transition, listen to Barack’s acceptance speech, and apply to work in his administration.

Does this make Gebusi men gay, homosexual, queer, etc.? Not at all. Gebusi don’t identify themselves as gay or bisexual, etc. The idea of classifying their sexual experiences to define them as one certain person would be foreign. It’s through western influences of biology and psychology that we have given risen to classifying people based on their sexuality. Did you know that the word homosexual wasn’t even first used until 1869? From Wikipedia:

The first known appearance of homosexual in print is found in an 1869 German pamphlet by the Austrian-born novelist Karl-Maria Kertbeny, published anonymously.[22] The prevalence of the concept owes much to the work of the German psychiatrist Richard Freiherr von Krafft-Ebing and his 1886 work Psychopathia Sexualis.[23] As such, the current use of the term has its roots in the broader 19th century tradition of personality taxonomy. These continue to influence the development of the modern concept of sexual orientation, gaining associations with romantic love and identity in addition to its original, exclusively sexual meaning.

Here is a statement the Executive Board of the American Anthropological Association put together after President George W. Bush called for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage as a threat to civilization:

“The results of more than a century of anthropological research on households, kinship relationships, and families, across cultures and through time, provide no support whatsoever for the view that either civilization or viable social orders depend upon marriage as an exclusively heterosexual institution. Rather, anthropological research supports the conclusion that a vast array of family types, including families built upon same-sex partnerships, can contribute to stable and humane societies.

The Executive Board of the American Anthropological Association strongly opposes a constitutional amendment limiting marriage to heterosexual couples.”

Pretty awesome, huh?

Here is a visual for you, divide $700,000,000,000 (amount proposed by Senate to bail out financial corporations) by the number of tax paying adults in the US, about 200,000,000, and you get a $3500 tax burden for each United States citizen who pays taxes. Can you imagine what you as a taxpayer could do with your own $3500?  It is your money afterall.  Why give it to the corporations when you could use it to pay off your credit cards or catch up on your mortgage or invest in the economy? It’s your money, it shouldn’t be wasted on corporations who chose to take bad (possibly illegal) financial risks.

The bailout is a cover up for financial corporations who made bad business decisions.  In 2001 we went through the same thing with the “energy crisis” and Enron, however, they were brought to justice, and the American people didn’t have to pay to bailout this company for it’s bad business practices.

Did you know that in the bailout plan their were stipulations about severence pay and bonuses for CEO’s who wanted to resign from these mismanaged financial coprorations?  Maybe instead of bailing them out, we need to investigate and prosecute those responsible for the possible illegal mismanagement of the corporations. Bankruptcy is the solution.
