Apple’s product “the Brick” an Entertainment Console?
There are rumors flying around the Internet about Apple’s product code-named, “The Brick.” Cleve Nettles over at 9to5mac.com broke the story he got from a tipster saying that the upcoming MacBook updates event on October 14th is ‘all about the Brick.’
The folks over at Macenstein believe “the Brick” is a product that will smash Microsoft Windows or more simply, Microsoft’s market share.
I have a different theory:
With the advent of the iPhone and the iPod touch and major gaming labels like Sega, Electronic Arts, THQ, and Atari investing in gaming software for Apple’s mobile platform, is it possible Apple is getting ready to release their own entertainment console for the home à la XBOX, Wii, Playstation, etc?
The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) reported that Apple Stores are receiving notice to take down and destroy all AppleTV displays and literature. The AppleTV was Apple’s foray into the home entertainment market. A device that you plug into your TV that will stream your movies, photos and music from your Mac, allow you to rent and buy movies over WiFi. Maybe they are enhancing AppleTV (it’s a good name) to include more of the features that XBOX, Wii and Playstation have: the ability to play games, download games, surf the web, etc. A computer for any TV.
Funny: A commercial for Apple’s gaming console, the iBox.
History: Apple’s first try with gaming consoles.
