Don’t be fooled by that $199 price tag for the new iPhone3G. The only reason it is so cheap is because it is being subsidized by AT&T. You cannot purchase an iPhone3G individually from the Apple Store online. You can go to a brick and mortar Apple Store and buy one, but you have to activate it on site. This means, if you already have AT&T service, you will be required to renew your contract another 2 years. Not to mention the data plans are rumored to be changing to a more expensive model. No more iPhone packages.
Buyer beware! I think I’m going to stick with my current iPhone 1.0 (jailbroken of course.)

They won’t be selling the old iPhone any longer. You’ll be forced to activate them in the store when you buy them, so what you’ll have to do is cancel the contract, pay the early termination fee and then stick your t-mobile sim in. I’m sure they will have a jailbreak for the firmware. If they already don’t. Does anyone else have a better take?
