I read an article on WordPress.org about a new tool for theme designers. It’s called WPThemerKit, available at wpthemerkit.com. It consists of a blank WordPress template package with 5 different layouts.

  • A - 800 Pixels Wide and No Sidebars
  • B - 800 Pixels Wide with Right Sidebar
  • C - 1000 Pixels Wide with 2 Right Sidebars
  • D - 1000 Pixels Wide with 1 Right and 1 Left Sidebar
  • E - 800 Pixels Wide with Left Sidebar
  • F - 1000 Pixels Wide with 2 Left Sidebars

A guide is included with the package that lets you know all of the CSS ID’s and classes that are included in the template files, and how to style them to your liking. It’s pretty in depth and includes many elements to customize.

When you’re done editing the CSS for the layout you want, you grab the CSS file and the images folder and drag it into the blank template folder. After that, it’s just like installing any other WordPress theme. Simple, huh?

I need to customize my site template, so I will definitely be looking into utilizing this tool. I’m running a modified Kubrick template right now. It works for now because it’s simple, but the design is still not up to my standards.
