Live.com beats out Google in Alexa Rankings

According to Alexa.com, Microsoft’s Live.com has beat out Google in the race to be the most heavily trafficked site on the Internet. Live.com is still behind Yahoo! and YouTube which take the number one and two spots respectively.

Alexa Page Rank - Live vs Google vs Yahoo

Digging a little bit more on Alexa’s website, I noticed that over the past 3 months, Yahoo! page views have gone down 7% and Live.com page views have shot up by 20%.

This can probably be attributed to the fact that Microsoft is running an aggressive marketing campaign for Live.com utilizing banner advertising all over the web, while Google and Yahoo don’t (need to) advertise their search features (at least not that I have seen). However, with this surge in page views for Live.com, will we start seeing Google and Yahoo! advertising banners across the Internet or is it just another bump in the search engine wars?

For now, I think it’s safe to say that Google still dominates search, Yahoo dominates the homepage portal and that Live.com is starting to become a more formidable option to Google’s search and less of the laughable joke it once was.
